She befriends Qing Ling, a young Chinese girl trying to escape from her life of oppressive luxury. Set in the 1920s, in a patriarchal British colony, Nozomi is caught in the crosshairs as British and Japanese intelligence lock horns while Qing Ling is betrayed by her lover and thrown into prostitution.
